Exploring Archetypal Energies Through Expressive Arts

October 1-5, 2014 at Mariawald Renewal Center in Reading, PA
with Kayce Stevens Hughlett, MA, LHMC and Christine Valters Paintner, PhD, REACE

Description

Each of us contains within us a multiplicity of energies which are rooted in the archetypes. Archetypes help to illuminate our shadow places, call us to step fully into our deepest passions in service to the world, and ultimately bring us to a place of greater internal freedom. Our lives become a place of joyful service and presence. Living in a world that doesn't always value slowing down, it can be a challenge to find time to care for ourselves. Nevertheless, nourishment of body, soul, and mind is a vital ingredient for whole-hearted living. Each individual holds personal responsibility for this, and we can enhance all of our relationships (work, home, world) by engaging in our own inner exploration. The archetypes are magnificent guides in this process.

Gather with other individuals for four days while we create a safe and sacred container to explore the archetypes at work within us through the expressive arts (including gentle movement, yoga, SoulCollage®, poetry, writing, and meditation). Some of the archetypes we will explore in this retreat include the Lover, Mother, Sovereign, Orphan, Warrior, and Magician. This will be a time of deep inner work, soul nourishment, and being supported in a community of like-minded peers.

Join us at the Mariawald Retreat Center in Reading, PA where each person has their own room with bathroom. Mariawald means "Mary of the Woods" and our time will be supported by the grounds at the center. The closest airport is Philadelphia, PA. Arrival is between 4 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1st and departure is after lunch on Sunday, October 5th.

Previous experience with SoulCollage®, art, yoga, or archetypes is not required. Limited to 14 participants.

*This educational event provides 25 hours of continuing education that can be applied to the educational hours required by the Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc.

This live intensive qualifies for Soul Care Institute credit, however anyone interested may register at any time.

Praise for the Retreat

Christine and Kayce provided me with a wonderful opportunity to rest and to gently introduced me to the Archetypal energies, through discussion, expressive art and movement.  The wealth of material was not overwhelming, just enough for me to get acquainted to each archetype and begin to see how it resided within me, and then an art project which began at the retreat and will continue at home.  This retreat nourished me in ways I had no idea I needed and I left feeling refreshed and grounded, ready to return back to the world!

—Ruth Turner

The retreat was beautifully planned and implemented with significant spiritual content to enable depth work. There was beautiful incorporation of the arts processes with amazing presenters and amazing participants. Simply mystical and magical. Great gratitude to both Christine and Kayce for their thoughtfulness in pulling this together.  It was wonderful, informative, inviting, spacious, and welcoming.

—Carol Scott Kassner

I spent 5 days with 11 other amazing women, all of us working on our spiritual development and personal empowerment by deepening our understanding of our archetypal energies: specifically, The Mother, Lover, Orphan, Warrior, Magician, and Queen. I found the collage work really helpful in stretching me to examine each archetype in greater depth and expanding my awareness of their light and shadow attributes. The excellence of the facilities and food, the balanced program, the preparation by Christine and Kayce, and the wonderful energies that the facilitators and all the participants brought to the workshop worked together to create a week that was truly inspirational and magical. As our nation and our world faces tremendous challenges, I feel more confident knowing that we are prepared to meet them as wise sovereigns, warriors, lovers, mothers, orphans, and magicians.

—Peggy DuFon

This retreat was a powerful experience of entering into my own inner journey through archetypal energies, reflecting on how I can see myself more clearly and at the same time, begin to experience the shadow side without fear or anxiety.  Being in a community of compassionate sojourners gives me courage, clarity and openness to my own life and what lies ahead. My soul was deeply nourished in a community of safety and creativity.  I came weary.  I left full – of new learnings and the reminder that I am not alone.  I carry all I need within me and at the same time, I can ask for support and care.
